Constant precision, real support, mutual trust: why marcegaglia has chosen tiac grinding wheels for over twenty years

At the heart of high-performance industrial production, grinding is a delicate phase. Here, every detail counts: from the reliability of the tools to the stability of the parameters, to the ability to respond promptly to any production variation. For a company like Marcegaglia, a European leader in steel processing, this means being able to count on technical partners who can meet very high production standards.

This was the context in which the collaboration with TIAC began and has been growing stronger for over twenty years. It is a partnership based on consistent quality, technical support, and a relationship built over time. This is described by Nicola Toso, head of the bar grinding department at the Gazoldo degli Ippoliti (MN) plant, which processes steel for the medical, food, and mechanical sectors, working three shifts a day, seven days a week.

Consistent performance: the grinding wheel that “never cheats on you”

The first distinctive feature that comes out in Toso’s words is the consistent performance of TIAC grinding wheels, even over long cycles and particularly demanding machining operations:

“The TIAC grinding wheel works. It is consistent. You don’t get any surprises halfway through the job. It doesn’t start well and end badly. It always performs the same way.”

A feature that, in Marcegaglia’s production environment, means stability, efficiency, and less downtime. The grinding wheels are reliable throughout their entire life cycle, with no need for rebalancing or early replacement: a real bonus for those who can’t afford any drop in performance.

Production efficiency: faster speed, fewer steps

In the grinding cycle for stainless steel bars, every second saved has a significant impact on overall productivity. The use of the TIAC grinding wheels has allowed Marcegaglia to increase the stock removal speed without compromising the surface quality of the pieces.

“We now grind at the speed we need. We can even remove 0,5 millimeters at a time without compromising the finish. Before, with other products, we had to go down much more, maybe 0,2 or 0,3.”

There is another practical advantage: the simplification of the working cycle, thanks to the possibility of combining several stages in a single pass.

“With the grinding wheel we have now, we can do everything in a single pass. There is no longer any need to do two passes with different grinding wheels: one harder for roughing and one for finishing.”

This ability to combine aggressiveness and precision reduces the number of tool changes, avoids machine downtime, and optimizes cycle times, with real benefits in terms of efficiency and production continuity.

Technical support: a partner who walks with you

The partnership between Marcegaglia and TIAC is not limited to the supply of products. It is a technical relationship built on trust and the ability to support the customer even in the most critical phases, such as the definition of machine parameters.

“They also helped us with the settings. They ran tests with us to identify the right parameters. This is not something to be taken lightly.”

This is evidence that highlights TIAC’s consulting expertise, which enables it to analyze the cycle, work on the choice of abrasive, binder, and grain size, and adapt every detail of the grinding wheel to the actual working conditions.

Reactivity and reliability: when needed, TIAC responds

In a market where delivery times are often long and inflexible, TIAC stands out for its promptness and flexibility. Toso explains it clearly:

“There have been times when we needed a grinding wheel urgently. TIAC delivered it in three days. They even responded on a Saturday. This availability makes all the difference.”

For Marcegaglia, this reactivity represents a strategic advantage: being able to count on a supplier that does not back down, even in non-standard situations, allows it to deal with production variations without impacting business continuity.

Trust built over time

The true strength of the relationship between Marcegaglia and TIAC, however, goes beyond technical aspects. It is the human relationship that makes the difference, as Toso himself confirms:

“With TIAC, there is trust. It is a company that listens, makes itself available, and seeks solutions. We have had suppliers who told us “We can’t do any more” … TIAC has never said that.”

Over the years, the product has been improved and customised: each batch is adapted to the type of steel, the behaviour of the machine and the specific production cycle. This level of customisation, rare among large manufacturers, is one of the keys to TIAC’s success in the high-precision grinding market.

“Our goal is not just to sell a grinding wheel, but to guide the customer in making the right choice for each application. Whenever the parameters change – the material, the machine, the type of finish – we are available to work together to find the most suitable solution” says Natalia Escudilla, Sales Technical Manager at TIAC.

“The grinding wheel is developed on each case; it is not a standard product. We try to keep the same base, but then we customise it according to the behaviour of the machine and the type of steel”, explains Giacomo Maddalozzo, Plant Engineering Manager at TIAC.

A daily presence, not just a supplier

The Marcegaglia case shows that true value in industry comes from a combination of technical expertise, product reliability and attention to relationships. TIAC is not just a manufacturer of abrasive wheels: it is a partner that works side by side with its customers, interpreting their needs and translating them into concrete solutions.

In a world where automatization is growing, but the need for human presence and direct responsibility remains central, TIAC has chosen a model that combines technology and trust. And it does so every day, alongside the leaders of European mechanical engineering.
